Objectives
This syllabus covers the requirements of Circular No. MSN 1/2007 : MERCHANT SHIPPING NOTICE issued by the Merchant Shipping Division, of the Government of Sri Lanka. Successful completion of the Training Course will enable the trainee to:
- Understand instructions on familiar topics
- Respond to questions on familiar topics
- Provide information about a situation
- Describe crew roles and outlines
- Describe persons/locations
- Understand cross-cultural issues
- Name positions on the board
- Ask and give directions on board and ashore
- Express likes and dislikes
- Explain the process of work
- Describe expected strands of work and behaviour at sea
- Discuss leisure time on board
- Demonstrate familiarity with English sounds and spelling
- Fill out a form with personal data
- Write reports
- Analyze problems and find solutions
Course certificate
Upon successful completion of the course and demonstration of competence, a document may be issued certifying that the holder has met the standard of the competency specified in the IMO Model Course 3.17 and of Circular No. MSN 1/2007: MERCHANT SHIPPING NOTICE issued by the Merchant Shipping Division, of the Government of Sri Lanka.
Such certification may only be issued by centres approved by the administration.
This training course is designed to cover the requirements of the Circular No. MSN 1/2007: MERCHANT SHIPPING NOTICE issued by the Merchant Shipping Division, of the Government of Sri Lanka.
The course is open for all seafarers of ‘Operational Level’ on sea-going vessels.
A trainee should posses fluent linguistic features in English to express himself accurately in all but the most demanding situations. Few minor errors and comprehensive issues will be allowed with room for improvement.
