Objectives
This syllabus covers the requirements of Circular No. MSN 1/2007: MERCHANT SHIPPING NOTICE issued by the Merchant Shipping Division of the Government of Sri Lanka. Successful completion of the Training Course will enable the trainee to:
- Build confidence in using English concerning work at sea
- Communicate on everyday issues
- Have no difficulty in solving problems of comprehension
- Be fully aware of Maritime terminology
Course certificate
Upon successful completion of the course and demonstration of competence, a document may be issued certifying that the holder has met the standard of the competency specified in the IMO Model Course 3.17 and of Circular No. MSN 1/2007: MERCHANT SHIPPING NOTICE issued by the Merchant Shipping Division, of the Government of Sri Lanka.
Such certification may only be issued by centres approved by the administration.
The course aims to enable the Trainee to become proficient in the use of the English language both written and spoken. Maritime terminology will also be covered for satisfactory exchange of communications specifically on board vessels at sea .
This training course is designed, to cover the requirements of Circular No. MSN 1/2007: MERCHANT SHIPPING NOTICE issued by the Merchant Shipping Division of the Government of Sri Lanka.
The course is open for all Trainees as a PRE-SEA TRAINING COURSE FOR DECK/ENGINE RATING.
A trainee should possess a sufficient proficiency level of English that enables him to adequately express himself on everyday topics and situations. Few minor errors and comprehensive issues will be allowed with room for improvement.
