Overview
The Electro-Technical Rating Programme equips candidates with the technical knowledge and hands-on skills required to serve as Electro-Technical Ratings aboard modern merchant vessels.
This programme is designed to meet the latest STCW (Standards of Training, Certification & Watchkeeping) requirements, ensuring graduates are competent in electrical, electronic, instrumentation and control systems used on board. Through classroom instruction, laboratory exercises, workshop practice, and onboard training, students will be prepared for the operational and maintenance tasks expected of Electro-Technical Ratings
Career opportunities
Graduates of the programme are eligible to serve in roles including Trainee Electro-Technical Rating, Electrical/Instrumentation Maintenance Technician on ships, support positions with ship repair yards, or technical roles in marine power generation and heavy industries. With experience and further certification, advancement towards Electro-Technical Officer positions is possible
- To provide a solid foundation in marine electrical and electronic theory, measurement and instrumentation, control systems and maritime electrical power systems.
- To develop practical proficiency in fault-finding, repair and maintenance, and safe handling of marine electrical equipment.
- To ensure familiarity with applicable safety standards, environmental protection, and regulations governing marine electrical operations.
- GCE Ordinary Level (O/L) passes.
- Minimum age of 18 years.
- Medical fitness and eyesight (including colour vision) as required under STCW standards.
- Successful interview, if required
